Letter to State Senator & Representative
I am a constituent in Columbus writing to request assistance with a prolonged and confusing Ohio Medicaid application process.
I submitted a Medicaid application on December 29 after my prior coverage ended due to a change in income. I am a transplant recipient and rely on immunosuppressant medications. Despite timely submission of income documentation, my application remained in “received” status for weeks.
I recently learned that a caseworker had requested additional documentation weeks ago, but this request was never communicated to me through any notice or portal task. It existed only in internal notes, which I could not see. As a result, my case stalled without my knowledge.
Throughout this process, I have received conflicting information from different representatives, experienced repeated portal upload failures, and faced phone wait times often exceeding an hour. Today alone, I spent nearly three hours on the phone attempting to resolve my case.
I am not seeking special treatment, only timely and clear communication so I can maintain access to medically necessary care. I am requesting your assistance in escalating this issue or inquiring with the appropriate agency to ensure my application is reviewed and that these systemic communication failures are addressed.
Thank you for your time and for representing our district.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth ‘Zee’ Holmquist
